Anthony Edwards' Bold Team USA Comments Trigger Online Buzz
By Chris Phelps,
2024-07-07Team USA has begun practice for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics. They kicked it into high gear on Sunday with a scrimmage against the 2024 Select Team, which consists of mostly NBA players that will train with Team USA prior to the Olympics.
Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards has joined Team USA for his first run at the Olympics. After Sunday's scrimmage, Edwards partook in an interview to discuss his role with the team, making a bold statement in the process.
"I'm still the number one option. Y'all might look at it differently. I don't look at it any differently," Edwards said. "I just go out there and be myself. Shoot my shots, play defense. They got to fit in and play around me. That's how I feel."

Edwards definitely doesn't lack any confidence in his game, a characteristic that has made him one of the more popular players in the NBA.
However, fans were torn over Edwards' statement, and they expressed their thoughts about it on social media.
"I’m an Ant fan but there’s a point where you can be too cocky rather than confident. Luka punished him in the playoffs"
"One of those guys you can’t hate on gotta love Ant"
"i genuinely love ant. the confidence & assuredness of himself he has. the way reporters always try and knock him off his game wit the questions & he stands on business.."
"Idc if he's "trolling" he's immature and needs to grow tf up. Why say this when you're representing your country, that's the one time you can try and be serious for once"
"The number one option from the bench"
"Anthony Edwards is with all-timers who have played way longer, are 10x more accomplished, and are flat-out better than him. Yet, he thinks everyone should fit in around him? Show some respect and learn to be humble around greatness - you haven't reached that level yet."
Edwards backed up his confidence with extraordinary play in the 2024 NBA Playoffs. He led the Timberwolves to an upset over the heavily favored Denver Nuggets. Their run came to a close when to faced Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks in the West Finals, losing in five games.
But to call himself the top option on Team USA may have been too much.
