Teen girl arrested after alleged knife attack, standoff in Chanhassen
By Declan Desmond,
2024-06-23A teenage girl is facing assault charges after an alleged knife attack on another teen in Chanhassen.
The incident happened around 7:30 p.m., with Carver County deputies and Chaska police officers responding to "an assault between two juveniles in a home involving a knife."
The victim was safely evacuated from the scene, while the suspect barricaded themselves in a second-floor bedroom, still armed and "refusing to comply," according to a news release from the Chaska Police Department:
With the help of drones, authorities were able to monitor the teen's movements, while a robot was deployed inside the house. When they confirmed no one else was on the second floor, officers fired a "Pepperball" — an irritant powder similar to pepper spray — leading to the suspect's surrender.
"Because of the technology and the professionalism of the deputies and our officers, the incident was managed safely and brought to a peaceful resolution," the Chaska Police Department said. "We're thankful for the incredible work and talent of those at this scene during this high-stress situation."
Carver County Sheriff Jason Kamerud told FOX 9 the 14-year-old suspect had been "chasing a 15-year-old male, while threatening to stab him." Authorities have not yet released any other details about the circumstances of the attack.
The suspect is now facing charges of 2nd-degree assault, threats of violence, and domestic assault.
